Located along the southern coast of China, Hong Kong is one of the two special administrative regions in China. As a special administrative region, the former British territory of Hong Kong is a part of China but gets a high level of autonomy and does not have to follow certain laws that Chinese provinces do. In 214 BCE, the region became a part of Imperial China after Qin Shi Huang conquered the area. The region then became a part of the Nanyue Kingdom in 206 B.C.E. after the Qin Dynasty collapsed. In 111 BCE, the Nanyue Kingdom was conquered by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. The region then eventually became a part of the Tang Dynasty and in 736 CE, a military town was built to protect the region. In 1276, the Mongols invaded the region and many of the settlements were moved. A British Territory The first Europeans to arrive in Hong Kong were the Portuguese in 1513. They quickly set up trading settlements in the region and were eventually forced out of the area due to clashes with the Chinese military. In 1699, the British East India Company first entered China and established trading posts in Canton. In the mid-1800s, the first Opium War between China and Britain took place and Hong Kong was occupied by British forces in 1841. In 1842, the island was ceded to the United Kingdom under the Treaty of Nanking. In 1898, the UK also got Lantau Island and nearby lands, which later became known as the New Territories. Invaded During WWII During World War II in 1941, the Empire of Japan invaded Hong Kong and the UK eventually surrendered its control of the area to Japan after the Battle of Hong Kong. In 1945, the UK regained control of the colony. Throughout the 1950s, Hong Kong rapidly industrialized and as such its economy quickly began to grow. In 1984, the UK and China signed the Sino-British Joint Declaration to transfer Hong Kong to China in 1997 with the understanding that it would get a high level of independence for at least 50 years. Transferred Back to China On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong was officially transferred from the UK to China and it became the first special administrative region of China. Since then, its economy has continued to grow and it has become one of the most stable and highly populated areas in the region. Its Own Form of Government Today, Hong Kong is still governed as a special administrative region of China and it has its own form of government with an executive branch made up of a chief of state (its president) and a head of government (the chief executive). It also has a legislative branch of government that is composed of a unicameral Legislative Council, and its legal system is based on English laws as well as Chinese laws. Hong Kongs judicial branch consists of a Court of Final Appeal, a High Court, as well as district courts, magistrates courts, and other lower-level courts. The only areas in which Hong Kong does not get autonomy from China is in its foreign affairs and defense issues. A World of Finance Hong Kong is one of the worlds largest international financial centers and as such it has a strong economy with low taxes and free trade.  The economy is considered a free market, one that is highly dependent on international trade. The main industries in Hong Kong, other than finance and banking, are textiles, clothing, tourism, shipping, electronics, plastics, toys, watches, and clocks. Agriculture is also practiced in some areas of Hong Kong and the main products of that industry are fresh vegetables, poultry, pork and fish. Dense Population Hong Kong has a large population of 7,213,338 (2018 estimate). It also has one of the densest populations in the world because its total area is 426 square miles (1,104 sq km). The population density of Hong Kong is 16,719 people per square mile or 6,451 people per square kilometer. Because of its dense population, its public transit network is highly developed and about 90% of its population utilizes it. Located on Chinas Southern Coast Hong Kong is located on the south coast of China, near the Pearl River Delta. It is about 37 miles (60 km) east of Macau and is surrounded by the South China Sea on the east, south, and west. On the north, it shares a border with Shenzhen in Chinas Guangdong province. Hong Kongs area of 426 square miles (1,104 sq km) consists of Hong Kong Island, as well as the Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories. Mountainous The topography of Hong Kong varies, but it is mostly hilly or mountainous throughout its area. The hills are also very steep. The northern part of the region consists of lowlands and the highest point in Hong Kong is Tai Mo Shan at 3,140 feet (957 m). Nice Weather Hong Kongs climate is considered subtropical monsoon, and as such it is cool and humid in the winter, hot and rainy in spring and summer, and warm in the fall. An hour into my search, I bore witness to a miracle. Hidden beneath a bit of sand was the lost treasure. As I arose, the fear I felt just moments earlier returned when I realized I had no idea how to get back to the vehicles. If this experience were to be made  ­into a movie, at this point the camera would capture a close-up of the young actress’s expression, then zoom out slowly to the forest and dunes, and finally to the world. After three hours, I could no longer appreciate the picturesque beauty that surrounded me. This situation might qualify as a simple dilemma for the likes of Survivorman, but it was a real challenge for a young woman more in tune with Abercrombie and Fitch. I began following endless paths that led me nowhere. Never in my life had I felt so helpless. If only I had possessed the magical ruby slippers, I could have clicked myself out of that nightmare. Eventually, I stumbled upon a path with promise and began to run. I was relieved to see a road ahead,  ­although there was no sign of cars or civilization. I plunked myself down on the edge of the road, feeing scared; I could entirely relate to Alice in Wonderland as I sat there, wondering what on earth I had gotten myself into. At that moment, even the most riveting bottled-water commercial could not compare to the pure water perfection I ravenously g ulped down. When I finished the very last sip, I called my mom. While I waited, I shared tales of school, friends, and life. We traded smiles as they assured me that my prayers had been answered. They turned out to be nuns with the Sisters of America, visiting northern Michigan for a bicycle race. My smile broadened with this disclosure. I began to laugh because it was then I realized something about the world: it is so small, so ironic, and so truly beautiful. It is so statistically improbable for a young woman, working in the field of science, to stumble upon her religion in such an unexpected way. The Greek philosopher Heraclitus once wrote, â€Å"Not all who wander are lost.† Through my experience, I learned wandering is one of the most vital parts of life. The unsteady side trails provide a connection to unique and previously unsuspected interests. My main goal in life is not to follow a direct route to my future, but to be persistent in pursuing my destiny through various paths. Life, I have learned, is a cause-and-effect relationship. It involves taking chances and risking security in hopes of stumbling upon something great – nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have come to gracefully accept life’s challenges with an open mind, and though at times unsure of my options, I remain confident in my choices. The characters in An inspector calls are; Arthur Birling and Sybil Birling (parents of Sheila and Eric). Sheila Birling and Eric Birling are (children of Mr Birling and Mrs Birling). Gerald croft is the (fiancà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½ of Sheila). Edna is the (worker of Birling house).  At the rise of the curtain, the four Birlings and Gerald are seated around at the table and discussing Sheilas engagement with Gerald. They are celebrating a special occasion and they are pleased with themselves. The Birling family were very pleased with Sheila that she is getting engaged to Gerald. Just before the bell rings and the inspector arrives at Mr Birlings house. The inspector breaks the happy mood when he arrives at Birlings house. When inspector enters and he tells the Birlings family about young women who died in the infirmary, shed swallowed a lot of strong disinfectant and burnt her inside out. He tells them that Eva smith is dead. She had taken suicide. Inspector point to every one of them had something going on with Eva Smith. The inspector investigates a suicide in the Birlings house because there seems to be a lot of reason. He wants to make the family realise, what responsibilities they have and that their behaviour has an influence on others. The inspector asks lots of question to the characters. All The characters they turn out that they are all, more or less responsible for this awful death. Inspector begins to ask each of one of them about their relationship to Eva Smith. The characters begin to say what they have done to Eva smith are: Arthur Birling who get sacked from her first job because she asked for a pay rise. He is trying to say that if he gave them a pay rise they soon would be asking for more and more so what he has done is right. Eva smith worked for Birling and company, she want into strike to ask for more money. The strike begins failed. Eva was also sacked because she was a ring leader. Arthur doesnt expect that responsibility. Sheila Birling who get her sacked from her second job. Eva smith change her name to Daisy Renton and starts working at Midlands, a clothes shop in December 1910. At the end of January 1911, shes suddenly sacked. Sheila threatened not to shop there again if Daisy isnt sacked. Sheila sacked her from second job because she was angry and jealous. Sheila feels guilty about what she has done because she admits what she has done and she says she will never do it again.
